Alberto Meda is an Italian engineer and designer, born in 1945 in Tremezzina, a municipality in the province of Como in the Lombardy region. He ventured into design in 1973, following his encounter with Giulio Castelli of Kartell, and became the technical director of this firm specializing in the manufacture of plastic objects. In 1979, he became an independent engineer and designer. In 1984, he created his first design: the Jack mobile lamp. Since then, he has created numerous objects and worked for major brands such as Alias, Alessi, Ideal Standard, Luceplan, Mandarina Duck, Philips, and Vitra. He teaches at the Domus Academy and the Polytechnic University of Milan. He has been awarded the Compasso d'Oro prize twice for the Lola and Metropoli lamps and as the Creator of the Year at the Paris Furniture Fair. Some of his creations are part of the MoMA collection.
