Roger Capron Floral Print Table
Price
Coffee table designed by French ceramist Roger Capron in the 1960s. Features a wooden structure and an enameled ceramic top with floral patterns. The famous Garrigue tiles by Roger Capron, created in 1968, adorn the table. The handcrafted tiles are made using a unique technique where real leaves and flowers are pressed into the clay before firing, leaving behind a highly detailed imprint. The plants used are from the "La Garrigue" region in southeastern France where Capron lived and worked. These tiles have inspired numerous tables and wall coverings, with many kitchens in the French Riviera featuring them on their walls. The ceramic top is in excellent condition while the wooden parts show signs of age and use. There are marker spots underneath the top, which are not visible when placed.
Roger Capron was born in Vincennes, France in 1922. Interested in drawing, he studied Applied Arts in Paris from 1939 to 1943 and worked as an art teacher in 1945. He died in 2006, leaving behind a considerable body of work that is recognized worldwide. In 1946, Roger Capron moved to Vallauris, where he founded a ceramics workshop known as 'l`Atelier Callis', contributing to the renaissance of ceramics in Vallauris. In 1952, he purchased an abandoned pottery in Vallauris and opened a small ceramics factory, with 15 workers. By 1957 he had established a considerable international reputation. In 1980 his factory employed 120 people and during that same decade he reverted to making one-off pieces which were shown internationally. Following an economic crisis, the factory was closed in 1982.
